Venus Williams recently paid a visit to the iconic Wimbledon grounds, the setting of the most successful Grand Slam tournament of her career. Seeing the five-time singles champion at SW19 drew a reaction from Eugenie Bouchard, a former Wimbledon finalist herself.

Williams was in London on Friday and a visit to Wimbledon just came to be. The 42-year-old posed for pictures next to the trophy case inside the club and even at the entrance of Centre Court. Williams suggested that when in London, all roads just lead to Wimbledon for her.

"I don't know how, but somehow all roads lead to Wimbledon," Williams said in a short video on her Instagram Stories.

Williams and Bouchard have faced each other twice on tour, however, never at Wimbledon. While the American tennis great won their first meeting in Tokyo back in 2013, Bouchard earned one of the biggest wins of her career by beating Williams at Charleston in 2014.

Both players have some special memories of Wimbledon. Williams' five singles titles came between 2000-2008 and are accompanied by six women's doubles titles, all of which she won with her sister Serena Williams as her partner. Meanwhile, Bouchard reached the singles final back in 2014, where she beat the likes of Alize Cornet, Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep before losing to Petra Kvitova.

Both Williams and Bouchard are currently on a break from the WTA tour as they recover from injuries.

Rick Macci, who was the Williams sisters' childhood coach, recently termed Venus Williams the second greatest female player ever behind her sister Serena Williams. While Macci admitted that it would be debatable to name the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion just behind her sister, he highlighted that she is also the only player to beat Serena Williams 12 times overall, as an argument in favor of the older sister's place in the GOAT debate.

"You've got one girl, one lady who's gonna be the greatest female ever to hold a racquet and maybe her sister, in my opinion, is the second best,' he stated. "I know that's debatable but she did beat Serena twelve times. No one else can say that you know like Venus so there's an argument there," Rick Macci said on The Functional Tennis Podcast.

The 42-year-old started her 2023 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, where she beat fellow Katie Volynets in the opening round before losing a tight three-setter to Zhu Lin. However, she suffered an injury during the tournament that has sidelined her from the tour ever since.
