French Open 2024 Day 2: Women's singles predictions ft. Ons Jabeur vs Sachia Vickery

Day 2 of the French Open will see the first round of the women's singles event continue. Reigning champion Iga Swiatek will start her title defense against French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean, with the winner taking on Naomi Osaka.

Third seed Coco Gauff faces Julia Avdeeva, while sixth seed Maria Sakkari will face Varvara Gracheva. The likes of Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Linda Noskova will also be in action.

#1 Ons Jabeur vs Sachia Vickery

Eighth seed Ons Jabeur faces Sachia Vickery in the first round of the French Open. It will be the first tour-level meeting between the two.

Jabeur enters the match following a second-round defeat at the Italian Open, while Vickery lost in qualifying at the WTA 1000 event. The Tunisian has had a pretty disappointing season, with just six wins in 15 matches. Vickery, meanwhile, has won two of her six main-draw fixtures in 2024.

While Ons Jabeur hasn't been at her best lately, she reached the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open. If she;s at her best, she should book her place in the second round of the French Open without much trouble.

#2 Marketa Vondrousova vs Rebeka Masarova

Fifth seed Marketa Vondrousova faces Rebeka Masarova in the first round of the French Open. It will be the second meeting between the two, with the Czech winning their previous encounter 6-1, 6-1 in the second round in Linz in 2023.

Vondrousova enters the claycourt Major following a quarterfinal exit at the Internationaux de Strasbourg. Meanwhile, Masarova last competed at an ITF event in her native Spain, where she reached the semifinals before retiring.

Vondrousova has won 11 of 19 matches this season, reaching the semifinals of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. Masarova, meanwhile, has won just one main-draw match in 2024.

Twelfth seed Jasmine Paolini locks horns with Daria Saville in the first round of the French Open. It will be the second tour-level meeting between the two, with Saville winning their previous one 6-0, 7-6(3) in the first round of the Hamburg European Open.

Paolini enters the match off a disappointing opening-round exit at the Italian Open, while Daria Saville was ousted in the qualifiers of the Internationaux de Strasbourg.

The Italian has won 16 of 24 matches this season, winning her maiden WTA 1000 title at the Dubai Tennis Championships. Saville, meanwhile, has triumphed in 11 of 21 fixtures.

Paolini's better form makes her the favorite. While Saville could give her a tought fight, the Italian should come out on top to reach the second round.

Thirteenth seed Beatriz Haddad Maia takes on Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the opening round of the French Open. It will be the first meeting between the two.

Haddad Maia enters the match off a quarterfinal exit at the Internationaux de Strasbourg, while Cocciaretto lost in the last-eight in Rabat.

The Brazilian has won 15 of 30 matches this season, notably reaching the semifinals of the Abu Dhabi Open. Cocciaretto, meanwhile, has triumphed in just eight of 20 fixtures.

Haddad Maia had a memorable run to the semifinals of the claycourt Major in 2023. The Brazilian is a solid player on the surface and will be heavily favored to come out on top.
