Martina Navratilova has supported author Jessica Valenti’s views opposing anti-abortion measures for women’s safety. Valenti argues that activists and politicians are quietly eliminating exceptions, including abortions necessary to save women’s lives.

Valenti has been writing about women and politics for nearly two decades. In September, the American writer launched a newsletter called "Abortion, Every Day" dedicated to abortion rights and the feminist community supporting them. She shared a part of her newsletter on X:

"Conservatives have been strategically redefining 'abortion' across law, culture and medicine, while pushing the false claim that abortion is never necessary to save a person's life. The end game is legislation that bans abortion in all cases, mandating that doctors only end life-threatening pregnancy using C-sections or induced vaginal birth, no matter the risk to the pregnant person. Like most anti abortion strategies, this one is being rolled out quietly and incrementally."

18-time Major champion Navratilova, known for advocating feminism, expressed her support for Valenti by sharing her post on X:

"I truly hate those “pro life” a*sholes. Putting a fetus or an embryo above a woman’s life - fu*k you!!!"

Navratilova has been accused of being "anti-trans" and defended her position.

On August 2, 2024, Kelsea Broadfoot, a transgender woman from Ryde, UK, was arrested on the street with a Samurai sword and her trousers around her ankles. Police found her intoxicated at the scene and arrested her on suspicion of multiple offenses. She pled guilty at the IW Magistrates’ Court.

A fan on X shared a news article referring to Broadfoot as a "woman," arguing that such a description insulted the community. Martina Navratilova highlighted the fan's post on X and commented:

"Exactly what I said years ago - all of a sudden we will see a spike in "women's" crime. When it’s males doing them still."

In the comments on Navratilova's post, an X user said:

"I’m a little surprised that you’re anti trans."

The 68-year-old replied:

"You said I was anti trans. I am not anti trans - I am pro women. Pro women sex based spaces. That is not anti anything."

Navratilova has been a strong advocate for women's sports and has opposed the inclusion of transgender athletes in the category.
