Carlos Alcaraz recently opened up about wanting people to leave his younger brother Jaime alone as he is worried about the pressure his brother faces. Alcaraz has three brothers - one older brother Alvaro and two younger brothers, Sergio and Jaime.
Currently, Alcaraz is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, competing at the Six Kings Slam. The exhibition tournament began on October 16, 2024, and will conclude on October 19, 2024. The event also features players like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and Holger Rune.
In his opening match, the four-time Grand Slam champion faced Rune and emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 6-2. The Spaniard will next face Rafael Nadal in the semifinals.
While speaking to the press in Riyadh, Carlos Alcaraz was asked about his younger brother, Jaime. He mentioned that Jaime admires him and even copied his hairstyle.
“His haircut I hear because I don’t spend too much time at home, so I hear from my mother that he asked the barber to make him the same hair as me. So it is funny and hilarious.”
Alcaraz stated that Jaime plays tennis well but expressed concern over the premature comparisons being drawn between them. The 21-year-old said that it is important to allow Jaime to develop at his own pace without the burden of expectations.
“Yeah he plays well, I’m not gonna lie. He’s getting to a really good level. But honestly there are a lot of people around, a lot of videos and accounts from social media that are saying that he’s going to be similar to his brother and I don’t really like that you know in that way,”
Carlos Alcaraz also expressed how he wants Jaime to enjoy tennis freely and not feel pressured and iterated:
“I just want all the people or all the social media to just leave him alone because he plays well but it’s not the best. So for me, I’m a little bit worried for the people who are around him during the tournament that they're gonna go to watch him because he’s my brother and then he'll probably put pressure on himself,”
The former World No. 1 stated that Jaime loves to play tennis and that he always finds his way to a tennis court in his free time. Alcaraz also expressed that he hopes to compete against Jaime on the professional tour one day.
“So, let’s see how he's gonna handle it. I’ll be there for him for sure. He loves tennis and every time he can, he goes to court, he asks my father to go court and hit some balls. For me that’s great, that he loves playing tennis and let’s see if he’s gonna get better and better and hopefully one year I'll play against him,”
Carlos Alcaraz: “I love tennis but I love even more being the older brother of my little ones”
Earlier, while speaking to the Sunday Times, Carlos Alcaraz expressed that he loves playing tennis but what he treasures even more is his role as an older brother to Sergio and Jaime.
Alcaraz said that he wants to be a role model for his younger siblings, not just as a tennis player but as a person.
“I love tennis but I love even more being the older brother of my little ones. Being the role model for them, not as a tennis player but a person. That is the most important thing — to help them learn about the things that matter in life.”
Carlos Alcaraz is set to face Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the Six Kings Slam. The winner of this match will advance to face either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic in the final.
