Carlos Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev in four sets in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships semifinal. The defending champion advanced into his second consecutive final at the Grasscourt Slam. He hopes to use his experience and do even better than last year.
Alcaraz took on Medvedev in a rematch of last year's semifinal on Friday, July 12. The first set was a rollercoaster with the pair breaking each other back and forth before settling for a tiebreaker. The Russian, who received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct in the set, won it convincingly in the tiebreaker.
Alcaraz, however, repeated the turnaround that he pulled off in the quarterfinal against Tommy Paul. The American won the first set against the Spaniard but the defending champion went on to win the next three sets. Similarly, in the semifinal, Alcaraz turned it around after going a set down to win 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
During his on-court interview, Alcaraz was asked if he was feeling the nerves before his second Wimbledon final. He claimed that he is not new to this feeling anymore and hopes to bank on his experience.
“I feel like I’m not new anymore. I know how I’m going to feel before the final... I’ve been in this position before and I will try to do the things that I did well last year. I will try to be better and try to do the things that went well…," Carlos Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz holds a 3-0 record in Grand Slam finals. He won the 2022 US Open final against Casper Ruud, the 2023 Wimbledon Championships final against Novak Djokovic, and the 2024 French Open final against Alexander Zverev.
Carlos Alcaraz was delighted with his Wimbledon 2024 SF performance against Daniil Medvedev

Carlos Alcaraz advanced into back-to-back finals at Wimbledon. He defeated Daniil Medvedev for a second consecutive time in the semifinal at the Grasscourt Slam. Although he lost a set this time, unlike a straight sets win last year, the 21-year-old Spaniard was happy with his performance.
“I’m really happy about my performance today... I started really nervously. He was dominating the match, playing great tennis with his serve and his return game," Alcaraz said in his on-court interview.
“I tried to hit great shots, I moved well, so in general I think I played a pretty good match,” he added.
Alcaraz awaits the result of the second semifinal between seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic and 25th seed Lorenzo Musetti to find out his opponent for the championship match which will be played on Sunday, July 14.
