Carlos Alcaraz clinched his third Masters 1000 title by winning the BNP Paribas Open. The 19-year-old defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-2 in the final to become the youngest champion at Indian Wells since Boris Becker in 1987. He also became the first Spaniard to win the tournament since Rafael Nadal in 2013.

After beating Medvedev, Alcaraz wrote a special message on the camera to his father in Spanish. The teenager later told Tennis Channel that it was a Father's Day wish as the occasion was marked on March 19 in Spain.

"On Sunday, it was Father's Day and I would say, while I couldn't make a present for him, this is a good present," the 19-year-old said.

Alcaraz was later asked what he would do during the short period before the Miami Masters got underway. The Spaniard said that he would spend time with his brother and friends who were arriving from Spain before training from Wednesday onwards.

"I'm going to have some days off. My brother and friends of mine are coming from Spain, so I'm going to spend a day with with them, you know, probably stay relaxed, have training off my mind," Alcaraz said.
"I could say, on Wednesday, start practicing over there in Miami to get used to the conditions over there. Once I start practicing, just focus on Miami," he added.

Carlos Alcaraz's victory at Indian Wells also saw him return to the top of the ATP rankings, dethroning Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard said in his post-match press conference that he was glad to be back as World No. 1 and that it was a "dream come true again."

"Well, it feels great to be back on the No. 1, you know. Of course every player on the ATP wants to be No. 1, and for me it's a dream come true again. Obviously being in front of such great players like Novak, like the top players, for me, it's an amazing feeling," Alcaraz said.

Carlos Alcaraz won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Miami last year and is the favorite to defend his title.
