The Laver Cup 2024 will be the seventh edition of the tournament and will be held in Berlin, Germany, from September 22-24. Players are divided into two teams, with Team Europe being led by Bjorn Borg, while Team World is captained by John McEnroe.
Borg and McEnroe will take on the role of team captains for the last time, and the duo will be replaced by Yannick Noah and Andre Agassi, respectively, next year. This year's Laver Cup also features a star-studded line-up featuring some of the top names from the men's circuit.
22-time Major champion Rafael Nadal is easily the biggest name in the fray this year. With rumors of his impending retirement doing the rounds, he could potentially follow in Roger Federer's footsteps and retire at the Laver Cup itself.
Nadal will be a part of Team Europe and will be joined by compatriot and four-time Major champion Carlos Alcaraz. The latter suffered a shock second-round exit from the US Open and will aim to reverse his fortunes in the coming months.
Top-10 players Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and Casper Ruud are also a part of Team Europe. This will be the German's fifth appearance, the most for any player representing Team Europe. Stefanos Tsitsipas is the sixth and final member of this team.
Americans dominate the Team World line-up, led by US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz. Joining him are his compatriots Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, and Tommy Paul. Alex de Minaur and Alejandro Tabilo complete the squad for this year's edition.
Here's a look at the line-up for the two teams competing this year:
Team World aims to win the Laver Cup for the third straight year
Team World were repeatedly trounced by Team Europe in the initial few editions of the Laver Cup. After losing the 2021 edition by a lopsided margin of 14-1, it looked like this rivalry would remain one-sided for years to come.
However, Team World got their act together the very next year and won the tournament for the first time by a score of 13-8. They defended their title last year and outplayed their European rivals 13-2, and will look to do the same once again.
After letting go of their initial dominance, Team Europe will aim to regain the upper hand once more. Both teams are evenly balanced this time and have quite a few in-form players. This year's edition is likely to be a competitive affair and could swing either way based on the players' form.
