"Love it" - Coco Gauff shares her delight as Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson lead Team USA to gold medal in 4x100m relay at Paris Olympics

American tennis star Coco Gauff couldn’t contain her excitement as she celebrated Team USA’s golden victory in the women’s 4x100m relay at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics. The United States clinched the gold medal on Friday, August 9, marking their 12th title in the prestigious event.

The U.S. team sought to reclaim its standing after finishing second at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021). The team, composed of Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Gabby Thomas, and Sha’Carri Richardson, ran a season-best 41.78 seconds, securing first place in the event.

This is Thomas’ second gold medal at the Paris Olympics, having won the 200m race earlier in the week. For Richardson, this is her first Olympic gold. She finished second in the 100m race last week.

Thomas shared a few pictures of the jubilant Team USA’s women’s 4x100m relay squad on social media. Gauff joined in the celebration, commenting:

A look into Coco Gauff's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Coco Gauff had a memorable debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Not only did she compete in the women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events, but also had the honor of being the flag-bearer for Team USA during the opening ceremony, alongside NBA superstar LeBron James.

Gauff cruised past Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic and Argentina's Maria Lourdes Carle in straight sets in the first two rounds. However, her journey in the singles event ended in the third round after she lost to eventual silver medalist Donna Vekic of Croatia. Despite a hard-fought match, Gauff lost 7-6(7), 6-2.

In the women’s doubles, Gauff teamed up with Jessica Pegula. They beat Australia’s Daria Saville and Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-1 in the first round but lost to the Czech duo of Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova in the second round. Despite winning the first set, Gauff and Pegula lost 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Gauff also competed in the mixed doubles event alongside Taylor Fritz. They made a decent start by defeating Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska and Maximo Gonzalez in the first round. However, eventual bronze medalists Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada beat the American pair 7-6(2), 3-6, 10-8 in the quarterfinals.

Gauff recently concluded her campaign at the 2024 National Bank Open in Toronto. The top-seeded American received a bye in the first round and defeated Wang Yafan 6-4, 6-4 in the second. The American lost 4-6, 1-6 to the 14th seed Diana Shnaider in the Round of 16.
