Martina Navratilova slammed US President-elect Donald Trump over his controversial message on Thanksgiving. Trump's message started off on a positive note but soon turned vicious as he took a swipe at his political rivals before hyping up the Republicans ahead of his second term as President.
Navratilova is among the fiercest Donald Trump critics in the world of tennis. The former World No. 1 and 18-time singles Grand Slam champion has, time and again, laid bare her dislike for the President-elect and the Republicans overall. In the buildup to the 2024 presidential elections, the Czech-American had endorsed Kamala Harris for President.
Recently, Trump took to X (formerly Twitter) and penned a message on the occasion of Thanksgiving. Through the message, the 78-year-old bizarrely lambasted his political rivals, referring to them as "radical left lunatics". He ultimately vowed to restore the US' respect, pride and strength.
"Happy Thanksgiving to all, including to the Radical Left Lunatics who have worked so hard to destroy our Country, but who have miserably failed, and will always fail, because their ideas and policies are so hopelessly bad that the great people of our Nation just gave a landslide victory to those who want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote.
"Don’t worry, our Country will soon be respected, productive, fair, and strong, and you will be, more than ever before, proud to be an American!" he added.
Martina Navratilova soon noticed Trump's post and the tennis legend was quick to respond to it. Navratilova's response was an angry one, as she labeled Trump's Thanksgiving message "divisive" and called the President-elect an "embarrassment".
"Really hard to explain this divisive nonsense. You are an embarrassment to the whole world. America is great now though could be better, and will be great and keep trying to be better long after you are gone," Martina Navratilova wrote.
Navratilova recently had harsh words for the Republicans amid discussions about the suddenly-transformed relationship between Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
"Too many people mistake wealth for brains and goodness" - Martina Navratilova
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was once a fierce Donald Trump critic, similar to Martina Navratilova. However, the equation between him and Trump has significantly changed after he abandoned his own presidential campaign and endorsed the latter as President. After winning the elections, Trump declared that he would be nominating Kennedy Jr. for the health secretary position.
This sudden and drastic change in the pair's relationship has sparked concerns among many, with one X user recently writing:
"A government run by toxic men, for toxic men. The He-man Women-Hater's administration"
Navratilova agreed with this take and explained why she can't consider supporting the Republicans.
"Exactly why I could not ever vote for Republicans, the sycophants and toxic men they are now. Not until this attitude changes. Also too many people mistake wealth for brains and goodness," Navratilova wrote.
In the aftermath of Trump's win in the 2024 presidential elections, Navratilova had expressed her dismay over the development.
