Martina Navratilova reacted to American President Donald Trump's controversial threat to impose new tariffs on products.
Trump, in his second Presidential term, is keen to bring in some major changes in areas like US trade policy, taxes and illegal immigration. The latest development saw the 78-year-old assuring about imposing 25% tariff rates on all products imported from neighboring countries Canada and Mexico. He remained adamant about having the right to impose higher tariffs on countries that laid tariffs on their US-imported products.
"On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on all products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders," Trump wrote on a post shared on the Truth site.
Although some of Trump's proposals need approval from the US Congress, netizens have already expressed their concerns. Legal commentator Tristan Snell warned American consumers of paying 25% extra on taxes once Trump assumes office in January 2025.
"A tariff is a tax. The company pays it -- then passes along the cost as a price increase to YOU. So Donald Trump is raising YOUR taxes 25% in January," Snell wrote on X.
Navratilova backed the criticism as she mocked "MAGA (Make America Great Again, Trump's 2016 campaign slogan) voters" on their decision to elect Trump for the presidency.
"See how much the maga voters will like that...," Martina Navratilova's post read.
Navratilova is a strong critic of Donald Trump. The 18-time Grand Slam champion has slammed Trump's actions on several occasions. She condemned the President's decision to nominate Matt Gaetz for the attorney general position. Navratilova expressed her disapproval, pointing out sex trafficking allegations against Gaetz.

After the election results were published, Navratilova took to social media to express discontent, stating that Trump's win symbolized the triumph of "fear and anger."
"Well, trump won. Fear and anger won. And a country that was born as a racist patriarchy proved beyond any reasonable doubt it still is a racist patriarchy. Not sure when this ceases to be true…," Navratilova wrote on X.
Republican Donald Trump became the 47th President of the United States, defeating Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. He clinched the majority after winning 52 of the 100 seats after securing 292 votes.
