"My happy place" - Elina Svitolina posts photo with husband Gael Monfils feeding daughter Skai her 'first meal'

Elina Svitolina has reunited with her husband Gael Monfils after the Frenchman's return from the United States.

Monfils, making his competitive comeback after an eight-month hiatus due to injury, suffered yet another injury setback at Miami. On the bright side, however, the player was quickly able to reunite with his wife Elina Svitolina and five-month old daughter Skai.

Svitolina shared family pictures marking their delightful union in Monte-Carlo, Monaco.

"My happy place," she wrote in the Instagram post.

Later, the 28-year-old also shared an adorable picture of Monfils feeding their baby daughter Skai her "first meal."

What's next for Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina?

On the tennis front, the couple have been fairly inactive in recent months. But fans can expect Elina Svitolina to mark her return very soon - during the clay season.

Svitolina played her last match in March 2022, at the Miami Open, before taking a pregnancy break. The Ukrainian has recently been updating her fans on social media about her training sessions on the red dirt in Monte-Carlo.

It was announced earlier this month that the former World No. 3 has accepted a main draw wildcard to compete at the WTA 500 Charleston Open. The tournament will be held from April 1- 9.

Meanwhile, Gael Monfils has suffered a fresh injury setback. The Frenchman, who previously contested the 2022 Canadian Open before retiring mid-match due to a foot injury, was hoping to make his mark on the tour during the 2023 Sunshine Double.

However, Monfils' resumption got off to a grim start, with an opening round loss to Australia’s Jordan Thompson at Indian Wells. He next contested a Challenger level event in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was handed yet another first-round defeat by Russia’s Alexander Shevchenko.

The former World No. 6’s hopes were then crushed further as he suffered a wrist injury during his opening match against Ugo Humbert at the Miami Open.

"I couldn't help but get hurt again, it must be something I don't do well. It's not what I want," Monfils said after his Miami Open exit. "I was very downcast immediately afterwards, but you have to think things are a little more positive and since I don't know what the problem is, I try not to freak out."

The wrist concern has cast doubt over Monfils’ immediate future. The player himself said that he would only be able to get a better understanding after evaluating the extent of the injury.

"I will do tests and then there will be treatments," he said. "I don't know if I'll have it for two, six or more weeks if they tell me I broke my wrist and will have it for nine months, well, I'll have to think about it. But I don't think I'll have to stay still for that long."
