Andy Murray's former coach Brad Gilbert has opened up on how the former World No. 1 used to always challenge him.

Gilbert has worked with a number of top tennis players during his coaching career, including Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick. He became Andy Murray's coach in 2006 before parting ways the following year.

Gilbert recently appeared on The Craig Shapiro Tennis podcast where he answered questions from the fans. While speaking about Murray, the former top-5 player said that the Scot would always ask why no matter what was advised to him.

"Andy Murray, I've never seen a guy, no matter what you said or did, he would always say why. His whole thing about everything was 'Do you have 10,000 pages of evidence of that?' and I was like, 'This is what I've seen.' Any time I would give him advice about anything, he would always ask why. I finally said, 'You think I will give you the wrong advice?'" Gilbert said.
"He would want to know what statistical analysis I had about everything, and I was like, 'You know what, I just use my old eyes', but each player can challenge you a different way and that's the beauty of individuals in tennis," he added.

Andy Murray booked his place in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters by beating Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-4. The Scot will next face Radu Albot, who replaced Pablo Carreno Busta in the main draw after the 15th-seeded Spaniard was forced to withdraw. Murray and Albot will face each other for the very first time.

The 35-year-old has had a promising start to the 2023 season with seven wins out of 10 matches so far. He reached the third round of the Australian Open following two hard-fought wins over Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Murray then made it to the final of the Qatar Open with wins over Lorenzo Sonego, Alexander Zverev, Alexandre Muller, and Jiri Lehecka before losing 6-4, 6-4 to Daniil Medvedev.

Andy Murray is expected to beat Radu Albot given his current form. The winner of the match will face either 24th seed Dan Evans or Jack Draper in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters.
