Coco Gauff recently gave a heartwarming shoutout to her maternal grandparents, who were felicitated with a community lifetime achievement award for their services. The 20-year-old expressed immense pride as she stated that no couple was "more deserving" to receive the honor than them.
Gauff's grandparents, Yvonne Lee Odom and her husband Eddie, are well-known for uplifting their community in Florida. Yvonne was the first-ever Black student to attend Delray Beach's Seacrest High School in 1961. A few years later, she would integrate the city's public schools before serving as a teacher for 45 years.
In that context, Coco Gauff fittingly gave tribute to both of her grandparents on her Instagram stories on Sunday (December 1) to celebrate the occasion of the latter two receiving a community lifetime achievement award. The American wrote in the caption:
"Community lifetime achievement award 💜 no one more deserving @yvonne.odom, my grandparents >>>"

For what it's worth, the World No. 3 has a particularly high-achieving family. Her mother, Candi, was a track-and-field star at Florida State University in her heyday, following which she followed in her mother Yvonne's footsteps and became a teacher.
Meanwhile, Gauff's father Corey was a basketball player during his college days. He also worked as a full-time coach for her daughter in the latter's early years. Candi and Corey are both prominent figures in the 2024 WTA Finals champion's team to this date.
The 20-year-old also has two brothers, Codey and Cameron. While her younger brother Cameron is interested in joining the NFL in the future, his elder brother is an aspiring baseballer. She regularly posts content surrounding the two on her Instagram handle.
Coco Gauff enjoyed a good season on the WTA Tour in 2024

Coco Gauff followed up on her breakout 2023 WTA Tour season in convincing fashion this year. The American compiled a healthy 54-17 win/loss record and picked up three pro titles.
Gauff started her year by recording her seventh career triumph in singles at the ASB Classic, before reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open. However, she then showed mediocre form between the WTA 1000 tournaments in Doha and Rome, dropping seven of her 22 tour-level outings.
The 2023 US Open champion was able to right the ship by reaching the last four at Roland Garros. And while the 20-year-old considerably slowed down in the second half of 2024, she ended the season on a strong note by winning the China Open and the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
