"No more sweets, there is tequila" - Aryna Sabalenka jokes about getting old as she reveals her drink of choice to celebrate Cincinnati Open triumph

Aryna Sabalenka joked about getting "old" while revealing her celebratory drink of choice after winning the 2024 Cincinnati Open. Sabalenka clinched her sixth WTA 1000 title and her 15th career title overall .

The Belarusian was the third seed in the tournament and she began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto with a score of 6-3, 6-4 before registering a 7-5, 6-2 win over Elina Svitolina to reach the quarterfinals/

Here, the 26-year-old defeated tenth seed Liudmila Samsonova 6-3, 6-2 before beating World No. 1 Iga Swiatek6-3, 6-3 to book her place in the final. In the championship match, Aryna Sabalenka triumphed 6-3, 7-5 over sixth seed Jessica Pegula just one hour and 15 minutes to claim the Cincinnati Open title. This win marked her second title of the year and her first since her Australian Open victory.

Following her win over Jessica Pegula, while speaking to Tennis Channel's Praksh Amritraj, Sabalenka shared her celebratory plans. She revealed that she would be skipping sweets in favor of tequila and a margarita to mark the occasion . She humorously attributed her choice to feeling "old ."

"You know, I'm getting old. There is no more sweets. There is tequila. You got to try margarita. That's, that's the best drink. You have to drink margarita," Sabalenka said [3:39].

While speaking to the press following her win over Jessica Pegula in the final of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, Aryna Sabalenka expressed that she was satisfied with her current level of play and stated that she was playing "great tennis." She acknowledged that while she is not yet playing her absolute best, she is steadily progressing towards that goal.

"I would say that I'm really playing great tennis, probably not like the best tennis I can play, but I'm definitely getting there," Aryna Sabalenka said [via WTAtennis.com].

Sabalenka also mentioned that she has been feeling increasingly confident with each match she plays, and expressed that she is eager to build on that momentum at the upcoming 2024 US Open .

"And with every match I play, I feel better, better and better and hopefully at the US Open, I can keep building the level, and I can, I can reach maybe even higher level than I used to play," she added.

Aryna Sabalenka will next compete in the 2024 US Open, which is set to kick off on August 26. Her best result at the New York Slam thus far was a runner-up finish in 2023, losing the final to Coco Gauff.
