Serena Williams recently reminisced about the extraordinary circumstances under which she bagged the 2017 Australian Open title. She was roughly eight-weeks pregnant with her daughter Olympia Ohanian during the tournament.

Williams defeated her sister Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 in the final to clinch her seventh Melbourne Major and the last Grand Slam title of her career. The American's dominance was such that she did not drop a single set during the course of the entire tournament.

PopSugar, an American media and technology company, took to social media to recognize celebrities who did "incredible" things while being pregnant. They hailed the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce and Kerri Walsh Jennings alongside Serena Williams.

"Growing another human being is just about as spectacular as it gets. But when someone goes ahead and does something incredible WHILE pregnant, it's hard not to be in (extra) awe," they captioned their Instagram post.

Williams reposted the post on her Instagram and recalled her triumph at the Grand Slam Down Under whilst pregnant with her daughter.

"@olympiaohanian in my belly," wrote the former World No. 1 on her Instagram stories, tagging her daughter's account.

Serena Williams revealed that she wanted to retire from tennis while feeling healthy and strong.

The American acknowledged that she had the fuel within to continue on the tour for longer. However, she felt that it would be wise to call time on her career while she was still healthy enough to lead a good life.

"Actually, I did play the other day, and it's just like, 'There's no way I shouldn't be playing professional tennis. Like, there's literally no excuse. But I mean, I guess there is an excuse, right? It's hard because when I'm playing, I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm pretty good at this. I can continue to do this,' which not a lot of people can say. I also wanted to walk away when I'm healthy and have a quality of life," stated the 41-year-old in an interaction with E News.

Williams retired from professional tennis in 2022. Her farewell match was at the 2022 US Open, where she faced off against Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. She was defeated by the Australian in three sets 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1.
