Rennae Stubbs laments double standards in coverage of women's and men's tournaments

Australian tennis coach, television commentator, and former professional player Rennae Stubbs has expressed her unhappiness with the double standards in coverage of women's and men's tournaments during the Qatar Open in Doha and ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam.

Stubbs noted that during the Qatar Open final, where Polish player Iga Swiatek defeated America's Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-0, there was only one commentator while the ABN AMRO Open being played simultaneously in Rotterdam saw two commentators for the men's semifinal between Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner. Both the tournaments are ATP and WTA 500 tournaments.

The former doubles World No. 1 took to social media to register her frustration and call out the Tennis Channel for this discrepancy.

"Women’s final from Doha, 1 announcer. Men’s semi final from Rotterdam,2 announcers.what’s up with that TC!???" she tweeted.

Stubbs also noted that at the ongoing Argentina Open, the men's matches had two commentators as opposed to the one in the women's final in Doha.

"And also for the men’s match in Buenos Aires there were two commentators. Women’s final just one!?? I’m so confused," she tweeted.

Rennae Stubbs miffed by umpire's mispronunciation of Barbora Krejcikova's name

Rennae Stubbs was unimpressed with the mispronunciation of Barbora Krejcikova's name.

Rennae Stubbs has called out the mispronunciation of Czech tennis player Barbora Krejcikova's name during the Qatar Open being played in Doha.

She noted that the Czech's name was constantly being mispronounced by the umpire. The Australian took to social media to call out the umpires and added that the WTA website has an audio recording of how to pronounce every player's name.

"The umpire in this terrific match with @BKrejcikova @V_Kudermetova match is saying Krejcikova name incorrectly and its killing me! Come on umpires, you work the tour all year long and still DONT listen to the players pronunciation on the @WTAWEBSITE!" she tweeted

Stubbs also explained how not all players may have their recorded voices on the website, but most players do and can be easily checked out, leaving no excuse for such errors.

"We don’t always get it right with pronunciations but there is no excuse when the players have the pronunciations in the @WTA websites. Not all players have it but most do," Stubbs added.

Stubbs had also called out the mispronunciation of Greece's Maria Sakkari's surname, which was being pronounced as "sack" instead of "sak".
