Serena Williams recently reacted to Caroline Wozniacki showing off her golf skills after a two-year hiatus from the sport. The Dane, who temporarily traded her rackets for golf clubs, was seen practicing her swing alongside her husband, David Lee, as she gets ready for the new season.
Caroline Wozniacki and Serena Williams have long been public about their friendship. Even though Williams retired in 2022, their friendship has continued to thrive.
On Monday, Wozniacki shared a video on Instagram of herself playing golf with her husband, former NBA player David Lee. In the caption, she expressed how great it felt to return to the course after a two-year break.
“Good to be back after a 2-year break!”- Wozniaki captioned the post.
The post quickly garnered a reaction from Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam Champion.
“I just love you,” Williams wrote.
During the season, Wozniacki reached the second round of the Australian Open, the third round at Wimbledon, and the fourth round at the US Open. At the French Open, she missed out on a wildcard and decided not to enter the qualifiers. She also reached the quarterfinals at both the Indian Wells and Hamburg Open.
Caroline Wozniacki - “Serena Williams doesn’t get nearly enough credit for getting to so many Grand Slam finals after having Olympia”
Caroline Wozniacki returned to tennis in June 2023 after a three-year hiatus following the birth of her two children, Olivia and James, with her husband David Lee. She spoke to Vogue about her return. She mentioned that Williams doesn't receive enough recognition for reaching four Grand Slam finals after the birth of her first daughter, Olivia.
“I think that Serena doesn’t get nearly enough credit for getting to so many Grand Slam finals after having Olympia. Her retirement will always be bittersweet, both for me and for so many other players, because she’s meant so much to women’s tennis. She paved the way for so many of us—she showed us that anything is possible," Wozniaki said.
Before returning to the tour, Wozniacki shared that she had dinner with Williams, who enthusiastically promised to cheer her on and always be there if she needed anything.
“Serena [Williams] and I had dinner a few weeks ago, and when I told her my plan she just said, “Wow—good for you. I’m going to cheer you on every step of the way, and if you ever need anything, I’m here.” She’s always been there for me,” she added.
During Williams' active years, she and Wozniacki faced off eleven times, including in the 2014 US Open final. Wozniacki won just one of their meetings.
