Stefanos Tsitsipas excitedly reacted to his girlfriend Paula Badosa winning the 2024 Citi Open title. This was the Spaniard's first title since the 2022 Sydney International, where she defeated Barbora Krejcikova in the final to win the title.
Badosa received a wildcard entry to the main draw of the WTA 500 hard court tournament in Washington. She kicked off her campaign by defeating Sofia Kenin 6-1, 7-6(6) in the first round. The former World No. 2 then advanced to the quarterfinals after her second-round opponent, third seed Liudmila Samsonova, retired from their match with the scoreline reading 6-2, 0-0 ret.
In the quarterfinals, Paula Badosa faced another wildcard, Emma Raducanu, and triumphed over her with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. She then defeated Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals to secure her spot in the final.
Most recently, in the championship match, Badosa battled against Marie Bouzkova for two hours and 24 minutes, ultimately winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to claim her fourth career title at the 2024 Citi Open.
The official social media account of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) shared a video of the Spaniard scoring the winning point against Bouzkova and falling on the court in jubilation.
Paula Badosa's boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas then took to social media to re-share the WTA's video and celebrate her victory.
"Shut the front door. 👑 ," Tsitsipas posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Following her win over Marie Bouzkova in the final of the 2024 Citi Open, Paula Badosa, who suffered a stress fracture in her back last season and endured various other injuries, expressed that being able to make a strong comeback and defeat some of the best players in the world to claim titles meant a lot to her.
"What I went through the last year, for me being back, winning big titles like a 500, winning the best players this the world, being competing against them again, for me it means a lot. That's why I had this mix of emotions . I was really, really nervous because I really wanted it really bad," Badosa said.
Badosa also expressed that she felt "good" after winning the title and playing on the court after being on the couch recuperating from her injuries last year.
"One year ago I was on the couch so it's a big difference now. Now I'm an athlete again. Even before the tournament I was feeling good, I was feeling confident. I think I needed to win something, a big title for me. Because my personality, I'm not happy always with finals and semifinals. I want to win titles," she added .
Paula Badosa will next compete at the 2024 Canadian Open and will begin her campaign by going up against Clara Tauson in the first round.
