Trying to regain his top level for some time now, tennis star Stan Wawrinka recently showed that he has a great sense of humor as well. The Swiss player quipped, in response to a fan comment, that he had no idea how he managed to win three Grand Slam titles.

Wawrinka is one of the very few male players to win more than one Major during the Big 3's dominant reign. He lifted his first Grand Slam trophy at the 2014 Australian Open, defeating Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals and Rafael Nadal in the title clash.

Wawrinka then did the unthinkable by winning the 2015 French Open. He downed compatriot Roger Federer in the quarterfinals and Djokovic in the final.

The 37-year-old's third Grand Slam triumph came at the 2016 US Open, where he beat Juan Martin del Potro in the quarterfinals and Djokovic once again in the summit clash.

However, a number of injuries and poor form have kept Wawrinka away from his best over the past few years. His last singles title came at the 2017 Geneva Open. The former World No. 3, now ranked No. 134, has faced first-round exits in his last four Major appearances.

That might be the reason a tennis fan recently took to social media and wondered aloud how Wawrinka won as many big titles as he did.

"I sometimes still cannot understand how Stan Wawrinka won three Grand Slams," the fan tweeted.

Wawrinka surprised the fan with a humorous and self-deprecating response, saying:

"Me neither."

The fan, however, pointed out that he was a fan of the Swiss tennis player and that he wasn't trying to troll him or sound rude.

After winning two matches each in the qualifiers, Switzerland and Germany played a decider on February 4 for a spot in the Group Stage of the 2023 Davis Cup Finals. Stan Wawrinka stepped up and defeated Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to put his country through.

While praising his teammates after the qualification, the Swiss ace remarked that he wanted to further help the team win the Group Stage in September.

“The urge is there. I loved spending this week with this team," Wawrinka said. "But I have to be in good shape in September. Until then, I would like to have a good season and move up the rankings, of course."
"I want to help this team. I believe it has real potential with Marc-Andrea Huesler, who knows how to be present in the big matches, and Dominic Stricker and Leandro Riedi, who are on the way to asserting themselves. Yes, there is plenty to do with this team," he added.
