According to Andy Roddick, Taylor Fritz is considered the most reliable choice among American men to make a mark at the 2023 French Open.

Roddick commended Fritz's performance at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, where he defeated defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the semifinals. Tsitsipas came into their match with a 12-match winning streak in Monte-Carlo, having triumphed at the ATP Masters 1000 event for two years running in 2021 and 2022. Fritz had strong victories in earlier rounds and showcased his abilities on clay.

Roddick also mentioned Tommy Paul as a worthwhile contender with flexible movement on clay courts. Sebastian Korda, while naturally skilled on clay, has been struggling to find success in recent matches according to Roddick's assessment.

Former World No. 1 Andy Roddick is currently occupied with his nonprofit, the namesake Andy Roddick Foundation. The nonprofit's activities are dedicated to enriching the lives of children outside of school. Andy Roddick is a Tennis Channel regular and is sharing his two cents with them on the American players he believes are likely to make a mark in the upcoming French Open.

"Yeah, I think Fritz is our most reliable choice right now. He played great in Monte Carlo, made the semis, had a couple of huge wins along the way there, Tommy Paul, fluid movement."
"Seb Korda slides very naturally on the clay but hasn't had much of a run-up. He has been struggling a little bit to get matches," feels Roddick.

Taylor Fritz’s best performance at the French Open was reaching the 3rd round in 2020. He could not get past the 2nd round in the subsequent two years. Since then, Taylor Fritz has improved his game and had a good run at the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he got past two-time winner Tsitsipas and denied him a shot at winning three titles at Monte-Carlo on the trot.

Unfortunately, he could not get past his semi-final opponent and eventual winner Andrey Rublev to whom he lost 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

Fellow American Sebastian Korda’s Roland Garros track record runs on similar lines, with his best performance being his 3rd round appearance at the 2022 French Open.

Seb Korda’s best performance on clay was at the Emilia-Romagna Open in 2021, where he defeated Italian Marco Cecchinato 6-2, 6-4 to secure the title. In doing so, he became the first American to win on European clay in 11 years.

These two players have met only once before, at the Monte Carlo Masters fourth round in 2022, in which Taylor Fritz won 7-6(4), 7-5.
