Former doubles World No. 1 Rennae Stubbs has expressed concern over Carlos Alcaraz's recurring injury issues.

Alcaraz was last seen in action in the Rio Open final, where he lost 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 to Cameron Norrie. During the match he struggled with leg discomfort, something he had to deal with throughout the tournament.

The former World No. 1 has had to deal with multiple injuries over the last few months. He struggled physically after last year's US Open, which eventually forced him to pull out of various events. Alcaraz has missed the Davis Cup finals, the Paris Masters, the ATP Finals and, most recently, the 2023 Australian Open.

Speaking on the latest episode of "The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast," Stubbs expressed concern over Alcaraz's fitness.

“I got to say the injuries are worrying me and that age to consistently get these injuries is not a good sign. He [Carlos Alcaraz] should not be getting injuries at this age. You get them at 35 and 38 and 39, not at 19 and 20,” she said.

The injury struggles aside, Stubbs praised Alcaraz for establishing himself on the tour at a young age. The three-time doubles Grand Slam champion even backed the 19-year-old to take over the mantle once Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal called time on their respective careers.

“[Alcaraz is] one of the great claycourt players that's probably going to win the French Open probably eight or nine times. He is so young and at some point Rafa and Roger and Nole they are all gone at some point, right? And who's going to pick up the baton? It'll be this guy,” she opined.

Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Mexican Open in Acapulco and his participation in the Indian Wells Masters is now in doubt.

Alcaraz took to social media to reveal that he picked up a grade 1 strain on his right hamstring at the Rio Open. The Spanish teenager stated that the injury would keep him out for "several days." He also expressed disappointment at having to withdraw from the Mexican Open.

"Unfortunately I won't be able to play in Acapulco. I have a grade 1 strain in my right hamstring that will keep me out for several days, according to the tests we did this morning," Alcaraz said via Instagram.
"I'm really sad I can't compete here, but now it's time to think about recovering and being ready as soon as possible. I hope to see you all soon!"
