Carlos Alcaraz was recently featured alongside Wimbledon champions like Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Martina Navratilova, among others, in a promotional banner created by the All England Club.

A Twitter user shared an image from the Wimbledon Facebook account which showcased many past winners of the grasscourt Major. The user questioned Carlos Alcaraz's presence in the lineup given that he is yet to win a Wimbledon title.

"Why is Alcaraz in this photo? When did he win Wimbledon?," the user asked.

Other tennis fans were quick to chime in and contest the Spaniard's presence alongside past champions. One fan stated that while they appreciated Alcaraz's personality and tennis skills, the constant "fawning and overhyping" over him by the media was causing them to be turned off by the Spaniard.

"He is there for the people at the back who have not realised that Carlitos is the new chosen product. He is a nice guy, his tennis is great, but the constant fawning and overhyping, not to mention misleading takes like this one, are putting me off big time," the fan tweeted.

Another fan claimed that the similar inclusion of Iga Swiatek, who hasn't yet won a Wimbledon title either, was questionable too.

"When did swiatek win Wimbledon?," the fan wrote.
"I dont hate alcaraz really, but the way theyre pushing him in everyones faces is annoying as hell," another user chimed in.

Another fan found the inclusion of Alcaraz and Swiatek to be particularly egregious given the absence of past Wimbledon champions like Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg and Maria Sharapova.

"Propaganda. They should’ve added Agassi or Boris Becker or Stefan Edberg. Also there is no Maria Sharapova, that is more historically accurate than Iga who has never won," the user posted.

Carlos Alcaraz continues to make headway into his title defense at the 2023 Miami Open. Following his third-round victory over Dusan Lajovic, the Spaniard named his family and team as the motivation behind his victories. He also expressed his admiration for compatriot Rafael Nadal.

"I'm playing for my family, my team. Someone I looked up to when I was younger was Rafa Nadal. Trying to make impossible shots, impossible passes, it's all for him," Alcaraz said in his post-match interview.

Alcaraz reiterated that he wanted to make his family proud with his performances.

"Right now, I'm playing for my dad, to make him proud, my grandfather and my whole family, trying to make them proud of me," he added.

Carlos Alcaraz will take on Tommy Paul in the fourth round of the 2023 Miami Open. Paul won their solitary previous encounter, at the 2022 Canadian Open, in three sets.
