Eugenie Bouchard recently spoke about going out on a date with a fan in 2017 after losing a bet she made regarding that year's Super Bowl between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots. The Falcons was off to a dominant start and led 28-3 but Tom Brady inspired the Patriots to a memorable 34-28 victory at NRG Stadium in Houston. It was the very first Super Bowl to be decided in overtime.

Bouchard took to X to say that the Falcons would win, to which a fan responded by asking they would go on a date if the Patriots won. The former top-five player agreed to the bet.

After the Patriots won, Bouchard "stayed true to her word" and went on a date with him. His name is John Goehrke.

Eugenie Bouchard recently appeared on an episode of the "Nothing Major" podcast which is hosted by former tennis players Sam Querrey, Jack Sock, Steve Johnson and John Isner. She was asked about the bet and said that her tweet had come when the Falcons were leading 28-3 after the third quarter.

"I'm literally super bored, I tweeted, 'I knew Atlanta would win.' I was reading my Twitter replies, which I don't even normally do, and this one guy wrote, 'If the Patriots come back, we go on a date.' I publicly responded, 'Sure.' This is like, at exactly when it was 28-3 at the end of the third quarter, I'm here like, 'There is no chance (that the Falcons would lose).' Of course, Tom Brady works his magic, comes back, and then this story is everywhere," Eugenie Bouchard said [at 12:29].
"I wake up next morning and my uncle, who lives in London, was calling and was like, 'You're the number one story on the BBC.' I was like, the number one story on CNN, they talked about it on ESPN, the Monday after the Super Bowl. I was like, 'This is crazy,' and I just knew I had to stay true to my word because that's kind of the first thing I am."

Bouchard also said that she had to do some research about the individual, whose profile picture at the time was that of Tiger Woods, something the Canadian jokingly called "dangerous" as it could have been anyone.

"We had to firstly research who this was because by the way, his profile picture was Tiger Woods and I was like, 'This is honestly not Tiger Woods, which means it's a super fan, which means this is dangerous.' It could have been anybody, anything, man, woman, whatever. So, turns out it's like this good-looking guy," she said.

Bouchard also said that they went to watch a Brooklyn Nets match where NBA TV followed them as they sat courtside.

Speaking further about her date, Eugenie Bouchard revealed in the aforementioned podcast that she was given Tiffany earrings as a present and she was stopped and asked about the date afterwards, replying sarcastically.

"We did like a whole media thing about it, we took him to a Brooklyn Nets game, we sat courtside, the NBA TV was like, following us. He got me Tiffany earrings before the game as a present," Eugenie Bouchard said. "I was getting stopped on the sidewalk, like, 'Are you the Twitter girl?' I'm like, 'Yeah, I haven't accomplished anything else in my life, I am the Twitter girl, that's me.'" [at 13:56]

Bouchard recently featured in the qualifying rounds of the Canadian Open where she faced Japan's Moyuka Uchijima in the first round. The 30-year-old won the first set 7-5 and raced to a 5-2 lead in the second before eventually losing it. She had a match point in the third but the Japanese saved it and scripted a remarkable comeback to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

Bouchard, who is currently ranked 514th in the world, last played a main draw singles match at the 2023 Guadalajara Open where she reached the second round before losing to Veronika Kudermetova.

In doubles, Eugenie Bouchard recently competed at the Citi Open in Washington, partnering Sloane Stephens. The pair, however, suffered a 3-6, 4-6 defeat to the Chinese-American duo of Xu Yifan and Ashlyn Krueger in the first round.

Bouchard's most recent notable achievement in tennis dates back to 2023 when she was part of the Canadian win at the Billie Jean King Cup. The former Wimbledon runner-up partnered Gabriela Dabrowski in the nation's group fixtures against Spain and Poland. They beat Rebeka Masarova and Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-3, 7-5 before registering a 6-2, 6-3 over Weronika Falkowska and Katarzyna Kawa.

Bouchard, however, did not feature in the semifinals or the final where Canada beat Czech Republic and Italy, respectively, to win the Cup.
