Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner at the 2025 US Open to claim his sixth Grand Slam title. After the match, Jessica Pegula teased the Spaniard with an amusing message as she congratulated him for his victory.
In the first week of the US Open, Alcaraz had paired up with Emma Raducanu for the mixed doubles tournament. The duo’s opening round encounter saw them face off against Pegula and her partner Jack Draper. The match saw some impressive tennis from both sides, but it was Pegula and Draper who were the dominant pair, clinching a convincing 4-2, 4-2 win.
Despite his disappointing mixed doubles outing, Carlos Alcaraz went on to dominate the singles draw. En route to the finals, 22-year-old beat the likes of Jiri Lehecka and Novak Djokovic without dropping a set, before outdoing Jannik Sinner in the summit clash. After his win, Jessica Pegula shared a snap of the tennis star cradling his US Open men's singles trophy on her Instagram story and wrote,
“Congrats @carlitosalcarazz, too bad I was the only person to beat you at the @usopen this year.”

Carlos Alcaraz reflects on reclaiming World No.1 position after US Open triumph

Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed a dream run at the US Open. After a title finish at the Cincinnati Masters, the Spaniard arrived to New York in form. He kicked off his campaign at Flushing Meadows with dominant wins over Reilly Opelka, Mattia Bellucci, Luciano Darderi and Arthur Rinderknech. He then beat Jiri Lehecka and Novak Djokovic, before avenging his Wimbledon loss against Jannik Sinner.
Now, after his US Open triumph, Alcaraz will return to the World No.1 position on Monday (September 8). Reflecting on this achievement, the 22-year-old said in his press conference,
“It’s great when you achieve the goals you set up yourself at the beginning of the year, it feels amazing. So since I got the chance to recover the No. 1, it was one of the first goals that I had during the season just to try to recover the No. 1 as soon as possible or end the year as number one. So for me, [to] achieve that once again, as I said, it is a dream. Doing [it] the same day as getting another Grand Slam feels even better. This (is) everything I’m working for and I’m really happy to be able to live this experience.”
This marks Carlos Alcaraz's fifth overall stint as World No.1 and 37th week on the top rung of the ladder. He has previously been the year-end World No.1 in 2022.
