Frances Tiafoe's girlfriend Ayan Broomfield showed her support for her boyfriend in a unique way during his quarterfinal match against top seed Andrey Rublev at the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open. Broomfield wore a custom D.C. United jersey with Tiafoe’s name and number ‘85’ on it.
The current World No. 29 made his pro debut at Mubadala Citi DC Open ten years ago, and has been chasing his first title in Washington ever since, reaching the quarterfinals in 2022 and 2023, but falling to the eventual champions Nick Kyrgios and Daniel Evans, respectively.
At the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open, Tiafoe reached his first semifinal in his hometown tournament, after beating the top seed Andrey Rublev 6-4, 7-6. The 26-year-old also defeated Daniel Elahi Galan and Aleksandar Kovacevic in the previous rounds.
Tiafoe said he felt incredible to play in front of his home crowd and that he could feel the love they had for him.
"I saw the crowd and I was like, 'God, it's going to be epic tonight,' " Tiafoe said (via ATPTour.com). "I was even telling Andrey before, it's going to be pretty rowdy. I was super happy to see everyone come out on a Friday night and want to come watch me. It was incredible."
Tiafoe posted the picture of Broomfield in her custom jersey on his Instagram story on August 3.
"Tuff as hell 💗💗," Tiafoe captioned.
