A tennis center to mark the legacy of Andy Murray and his family was in the works to be built near their hometown of Dunblane. However, the plans were scrapped as they met opposition from campaigners. Fans pointed out that the plans involved more than just tennis courts and they felt it was inappropriate.

Andy's mother Judy and brother Jamie have all contributed towards the promotion of tennis in Scotland. A project led by Judy and her charity, the Murray Play Foundation, was set to build a community multi-sport facility at Park of Keir to mark the legacy of the Murray family. However, the £20m project was recently axed.

The project was to be built on 'green belt land' and it faced opposition from campaigners in Scotland. The rising costs and planning issues coupled with discussions with governing bodies were cited as the reasons for scrapping the project.

The project included multiple courts for different racket sports, along with housing and a hotel. Fans took to X to point out this detail and claimed that it was unrelated to tennis.

"'Plans which also included housing and a hotel...' So using tennis as an excuse to build luxury housing and a hotel on greenbelt land, nice!" one fan wrote.

"'Which also included housing and a hotel'... I thought they were building a tennis centre? Confused," another fan wrote.
"Wrong area chosen. Plus it wasn’t just a tennis centre. They weren’t doing it charitably but for a massive profit," a third fan wrote.

"I had some sympathy until I read that the plans included a load a luxury houses and a hotel - what's that got to do with tennis?!" yet another fan wrote.

Some fans, however, supported Andy Murray and were against the decision to scrap the plan.

"Really sad day but from the wound grows strength - you’ve proven that time and again. True son of Scotland," one fan wrote.

"That's so sad," another fan lamented.

Murray recently retired from professional tennis after playing his last event at the Paris Olympics. He participated in the men's doubles with Dan Evans and the pair lost in the quarterfinals.

Judy Murray's charity, the Murray Play Foundation, responsible for the plans of the 'legacy' center has stated that it will now look for other initiatives to give back to the community.
