Iga Swiatek dropped to her knees in agony after taking a brutal body blow from Danielle Collins during the quarterfinal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Swiatek is playing in her second Olympics while Collins was making her debut at the Games.
Swiatek is the top seed in Paris and kicked off her Olympic campaign by defeating Irina-Camelia Begu 6-2, 7-5 and Diane Parry 6-1, 6-1 in the first and second rounds, respectively. The Pole then triumphed over Wang Xinyu 6-3, 6-4 in the third round to secure her place in her first career Olympic quarterfinal.
Meanwhile, Collins, seeded eight in the tournament began her Olympic campaign by moving past Laura Siegemund 6-3, 2-0 ret. in the first round and then defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the second round. She then overcame Camila Osorio 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 in the third round to move to the last eight.
Iga Swiatek advanced to the semifinals after her quarterfinal opponent, eight seed Danielle Collins, retired from their match during the third set, with the score reading 6-1, 2-6, 4-1.
During the second set of the match, Collins unleashed a powerful backhand passing shot that caught Swiatek off guard, striking her in the stomach and causing her to crumple to the ground in pain.
Despite the intense competition, the American showed sportsmanship by checking on Swiatek's well-being by going over to the Pole's side of the court.

Iga Swiatek will face Zheng Qinwen in Paris Olympics 2024 SF
Iga Swiatek will go up against sixth seed Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Zheng kicked off her Olympic campaign by defeating Italy's Sara Errani 6-0, 6-0 and Arantxa Rus 6-2, 6-4 in the first and second rounds, respectively. The World No. 7 secured her spot in the quarterfinals by overcoming the 11th seed, Emma Navarro 6-7(7), 7-6(4), 6-1. Most recently, she triumphed over Angelique Kerber 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(6) to advance to the semifinals.
Iga Swiatek and Zheng Qinwen have faced each other six time on the WTA Tour, with the Pole winning all of the six encounters. The World No. 1 met Zheng at Roland Garros, the venue for the French Open and the Olympics, only once before - in 2022 in the fourth round of the Claycourt Major.
Swiatek defeated the Chinese player 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals and then eventually went onto claim the title by defeating Coco Gauff in the final.
