Who is Carlos Alcaraz's coach at French Open 2025? All you need to know

Carlos Alcaraz is all set to defend his French Open title as he takes on top seed Jannik Sinner in the final on Sunday (June 8). Juan Carlos Ferrero is coaching the Spaniard at the French Open.

Ferrero himself was a prominent name on the ATP Tour, as he won the French Open in 2003. He reached two more Major finals but lost against Albert Costa (French Open 2002) and Andy Roddick (US Open 2003). Overall, he won 16 titles in his career, 13 of which came on clay, including four Masters 1000 titles on the surface, which took him to the No. 1 ranking on the ATP charts in September of 2003.

Ferrero took a 13-year-old Alcaraz under his wing when the latter joined his academy back in 2018. 2022 was the first breakthrough year for the Alcaraz-Ferrero partnership, as the teenage sensation reached seven finals, winning five titles.

He won the Masters 1000 titles in Miami and Madrid and finally won his maiden Major title at the US Open, finishing as the World No. 1 by the end of 2022, the youngest to do so in men's tennis history. Ferrero won the distinguished accolade of being "Coach of the Year" in 2022 by the ATP.

Since then, Alcaraz has gone from strength to strength, winning 13 titles in the last two years, including two Wimbledon titles and the 2024 Roland Garros win. He also brought on Samuel Lopez to his coaching team late last year, with Ferrero remaining at the helm.

Following in the footsteps of Rafael Nadal as a fellow Spaniard, the common consensus among tennis circles was that Alcaraz would thrive on clay. So far, he has done justice to the tag, winning 83 per cent of his matches on clay, and has ten titles from fifteen finals on the surface.

Apart from the title at Roland Garros, Alcaraz has already won all three clay-court Masters 1000 titles in Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome. He has a 21-1 win/loss record on clay this season, winning two titles, and his only loss came at the hands of Holger Rune in the final of the Barcelona Open.

Carlos Alcaraz has a 7-4 head-to-head record against the Italian. The Spaniard has won the last four matches, including a win at the final of the Italian Open last month.
