Emma Raducanu has hit another sudden roadblock as she was forced to withdraw from the ATX Open in Austin due to an illness.

Raducanu, who was set to be one of the biggest stars in action in next week's Austin WTA, cited illness in the form of tonsilitis as the reason behind her withdrawal. This led to many in the tennis fan community lamenting her continued lack of fortune in terms of fitness.

This is Raducanu's second setback due to injury or illness already this season. An ankle injury previously led to her retirement in a Round of 16 match at the ASB Classic in Auckland ahead of the Australian Open.

Raducanu has not competed since last month's Australian Open, where she bowed out in the second round with a loss to current World No. 6 Coco Gauff. Much of the 20-year-old Brit's career in the aftermath of her stunning 2021 US Open win has been plagued by fitness issues.

"I’m sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open," Emma Raducanu said in a statement on Saturday. "I am currently suffering from tonsillitis and am unable to compete this week. Thank you to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin."

Reacting to the same, tennis fans sympathized with her over her run of bad luck with injuries and illnesses that are severely impacting her ability to play consistently.

"Why does she have the worst luck in the world" a fan wrote on Twitter.
"Such a shame…..hopefully she’ll start to feel better and will be back on court soon. Tonsillitis is not fun," another fan expressed.

Dmitry Tursunov recently opened up about his time as Emma Raducanu's coach, revealing aspects of the Briton player's personality.

A former player himself, Tursunov said that Raducanu demands a lot from herself and thus pushes herself a lot during training in her bid for excellence. He also praised Raducanu as an intelligent person who is a lot more mature for her age.

"She is super young but she is very demanding of herself and she pushes herself a lot," Tursunov said on 'The Craig Shapiro Tennis Podcast.'
"She is super tough on herself but to me, I felt that she is an incredible, intelligent person. When you talk to her, you just forget that she is 19-20. So, in that sense, I really enjoyed every second of it."

Along with fitness issues, Raducanu has also struggled to find a permanent long-term coach since she broke onto the scene in 2021. She is currently working with German coach Sebastian Sachs, who guided Belinda Bencic to the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
