Players will fight for a spot in the championship round on Day 7 (November 8) of the WTA Finals 2024. Aryna Sabalenka, Zheng Qinwen, Coco Gauff, and Barbora Krejcikova were the four players to advance out of the group phase. The Czech's win over the American in her final match of the round-robin phase eliminated defending champion Iga Swiatek, who had two wins as well.
Zheng will face Krejcikova and won her only prior match against her, which took place at last year's Zhengzhou Open in three sets. The other semifinal will pit Sabalenka and Gauff against each other, who are familiar rivals, with their heads currently tied at 4-4.
However, the Belarusian has won both of their matches this year, first at the Australian Open and more recently at last month's Wuhan Open. Both of those meetings took place in the semifinal stage, and Sabalenka went on to claim the title each time.
Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova will take on Veronika Kudermetova and Chan Hao-Ching, who saved a match point to qualify for the semifinals during their win over Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski will face last year's finalists Ellen Perez and Nicole Melichar-Martinez in a rematch of last year's semifinal showdown.
