Holger Rune and his coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, have split for the third time. The pair announced that their split was mutual and that the Dane would look for a 'different approach' in the coming future. Fans are concerned about the impact this latest change will have on Rune’s career as he embarks on another new chapter.
Rune and Mouratoglou's association dates back to 2016. The Dane trained at the Frenchman's academy as a 13-year-old. They joined forces in October 2022, following which Rune embarked on one of the best periods of his young career.
The duo parted ways in April 2023 as per their initial agreement, but they were back working together in a few days. However, in August 2023, the pair parted ways again, and Rune's mother, Aneke, revealed there were 'ego clashes' within the coaching team.
Following the second split, Rune brought on Boris Becker and Severin Lüthi as coaches. However, he later reunited with Mouratoglou in February 2024. Just months later, on July 29, the pair have parted ways again. They announced their split on Instagram, calling it a 'mutual' decision.
The latest split between the player and coach prompted fans to share their opinions.
"Jennifer Lopez / Ben Affleck relationship" one fan wrote.
"Again? Problem is that Rune and his mom have too high an opinion of his game... Until he stops saying that he’s “part of the new big 3”... He’s not going anywhere. Holger can’t get to a QF, let alone win a tournament. He needs some humility and to put in the work!" another fan wrote.
"Anybody have any guesses when they will team up again?" asked a fan.
Here are some more fan reactions to Rune's third split with Mouratoglou.
"Again ???? This is a soap opera," one fan wrote.
"You guys are in a toxic relationship," another fan wrote.
"Holger will never reach his potential with the attitude," a third fan wrote.

Holger Rune will continue to work with Kenneth Carlsen following split with Patrick Mouratoglou

After parting ways with Boris Becker and Severin Lüthi, Holger Rune initially hired his compatriot Kenneth Carlsen as coach in February 2024. Later, Carlsen worked with Patrick Mouratoglou in coaching Rune.
Rune confirmed in his Instagram post about the split with Mouratoglou that he will continue working with Carlsen.
"I have had some good talks with Patrick, and we mutually decided to part ways.. He will always be a great friend, but for now, the best setup for me is to continue with Kenneth [Carlsen, his fellow Dane], who will be present at all practices and tournaments," Holger Rune wrote.
Most recently, Rune reached the fourth round of Wimbledon where he faced defeat at the hands of eventual runner-up Novak Djokovic. After the Grasscourt Slam, the Dane participated in the Hamburg Open to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Unfortunately, he suffered an injury and had to retire from the quarterfinal in Hamburg. Later, he withdrew from the Olympics as well.
