Martina Navratilova is known for her outspoken nature on social media, and that doesn't exclude touchy subjects either. The former player is well known for her feminist stances, which have often alienated some members of the movement.

Her outspoken stance on trans women competing with cis women has caused quite a bit of backlash, as her views have been described as radically feminist in opposition to the more intersectional feminism, which seems to be the more mainstream version of the movement in recent years.

In line with her opinions, Martina Navratilova recently reacted to the news of two German parliament members possibly facing removal from the parliament after voting against a law on the basis of it being 'risky for women'. The former World No. 1 reacted to a post shared by Reduxx Mag on X(formerly Twitter).

"This is so f***** up! Come on Germany! Surely you know what a woman is? You know? Like the woman who birthed each and every one of you? That was a woman. And only a woman can do that. And now you punish women who speak the truth? Ok…" - Navratilova posted on X.

Martina Navratilova has clearly expressed her disapproval of the gender self-identification law in Germany which has been called radical by some subsets of women. It allows persons who identify as transgender, non-binary, and intersex to register their new gender more easily in civil records.

According to the two politicians in question, this would be a 'problematic and risky' move for cis women and the officials might be excluded from the Free Democratic Party (FDP) after voting against it. Navratilova agreed with their stance and has now spoken out against the potential exclusion of them from the party as well.

However, this isn't the first time she has spoken out against transgender people or athletes as she has frequently been in the news for the same.

Martina Navratilova has mostly been focused on the issue of women's sports, where she opposed the inclusion of trans women athletes. She often cites biological sources as a basis for why it wouldn't be fair to cis women.

Her comments haven't been solely related to sports though, as she's made some other comments on similar issues which have been deemed rather problematic. One such instance was when she commented on trans women's crimes being labeled as crimes committed by women.

She pointed out that she predicted trans women's crimes being attributed to women, which she considers a falsehood as, in her mind, those crimes are committed by males. The clear implication here is that in her mind, trans women are biological males, which is a highly contentious issue.

"Exactly what I said years ago- all of a sudden we will see a spike in 'women’s' crime. When it’s males doing them still." - Navratilova on X

Although she has been in the news for her outspoken nature and more so for her open rebuttal of transgender athletes' inclusivity, Martina Navratilova has been an ardent supporter of women's rights movements. She has also been married to her wife, Julia Lemigova, for 10 years after she came out as lesbian but has faced backlash from the LGBTQIA+ community due to her anti-trans views.
