Redfoo, who makes up half of the electro-pop duo LMFAO, is putting his music career to a halt to try his hand at tennis; the musician has made up his mind to enter the playoffs for this year’s U.S. Open.

The electro-pop musician, who will battle it out using his real name, Stefan Gordy, is slated to take part in the United States Tennis Association Northern California Sectional qualifying tournament in Salinas, California, starting from June 18, 2013. He will participate in singles and mixed doubles qualifiers, the latter by teaming up with Ayaka Okuno.

Winners of the regional tournament advance to the national playoffs, the winners of which earn a wildcard to enter the U.S. Open.

Gordy, the 37-year-old singer and producer, told the Associated Press: “It’s always been a dream of mine to play professional tennis.”

Not only did the musician play tennis as a junior, but he is also currently dating former world number one Victoria Azarenka, and was seen accompanying her at the Australian Open earlier this year.
