Paes-Stepanek lose out in Eastbourne quarters

Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek lost their quarter final encounter at the Aegon International in Eastbourne to the combination of Jamie Murray and John Peers 1-6 6-3 10-5 . The tournament, which acts as a warm up for Wimbledon starting next week, is an ideal platform to test the abilities of players on grass. However, Paes-Stepanek could not manage to proceed further losing in a match that lasted just under an hour.

The Indo-Czech pair started the match well, breaking Murray-Peers twice to take the first set 6-1. Backed up by the home crowd, Brit Jamie Murray along with Australian Peers fought back in the second set getting the decisive break and holding serve to take the match to a super tie break. The unseeded duo although, trailing initially in the tie break made an excellent comeback to shock their 3rd seeded opponents and win the tiebreak 10-5.

Earlier in the day, Stepanek had played a tough match against German Philipp Kohlschreiber beating the German in straight sets 7-5 6-3. Paes-Stepanek will now play at Wimbledon, where they are the 4th seeds. Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek have reunited as a pair for Wimbledon, after Stepanek was out of action earlier this year due to a neck injury.
