Petra Kvitova pulls out of Aegon International with illness

2014 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will not take part in the Aegon International starting Monday. She was the top seed of the tournament and was scheduled to play her first macth on Tuesday.

She will now head to Wimbledon without any preparation on grass. Her last competitive match was in the fourth round of the French Open.

"I have a sore throat. I have to stay in bed, drink tea and rest," she said.

"I didn't feel well when I came here last Thursday, I had to make this decision.

"I hope to be fine for Wimbledon. I'll stay here in Eastbourne and then slowly move to London."

The Czech was scheduled to play doubles as well with No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki at Eastbourne. Kvitova has won two Grand Slam titles in her career, both of which came here at Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014.
