Emma Raducanu vs Cristina Bucsa preview

Home favorite Emma Raducanu will take on qualifier Cristina Bucsa in the first round of the HSBC Championships 2025.
Raducanu advanced to the third round of the Australian Open for the first time this year. She scored wins over Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova before losing to Iga Swiatek. After a few forgettable results, she reached her maiden quarterfinal at the WTA 1000 level in Miami.
The Brit's campaign came to an end with a tough three-set loss to Jessica Pegula. She attained another milestone during the clay swing. She tallied her best result on the red dirt so far with a fourth-round showing at the Italian Open. She wrapped up her time on clay with a second-round exit from the French Open.
Raducanu has already notched up a win at Queen's Club. She's also competing in doubles this week with Katie Boulter. The duo beat Jiang Xinyu and Wu Fang-Hsien 6-4, 6-2 in the first round on Monday (June 9).
Bucsa came through the qualifying rounds here with wins over Alice Gillan and Yuriko Miyazaki, staging a comeback to beat the latter as well. She hasn't advanced beyond the second round of any tournament at the WTA level this year.

Emma Raducanu vs Cristina Bucsa prediction

Raducanu also got off to a winning start on grass in doubles and will aim to do so in singles as well. She has achieved new milestones in her career this year with her performances at the WTA 1000 tournaments. She has performed quite well on grass in the past.
Raducanu has made the fourth round at Wimbledon twice, including last year. Bucsa had struggled to get going this year, only winning a handful of main draw matches. However, one of those wins came against the Brit in Singapore. She staged a comeback to beat the former US Open champion in three sets.
However, Raducanu was in the middle of a slump then. She has usually thrived on grass and went 7-3 on it last year. Bucsa, meanwhile, has a 2-6 career record on the surface. Based on their results on grass, the Brit should be able to avenge her prior loss to her older rival and make a winning start to her run at Queen's Club.
Pick: Emma Raducanu to win in straight sets.
