McCartney Kessler is all set to take on the top seed and World No. 5 Zheng Qinwen in the second round of the 2025 Queen's Club Championships. Kessler has reached two finals in 2025, winning the title at the Hobart International, where she won 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 against Elise Mertens in the final. However, the clay season was atrocious for Kessler, as she could not win a single Tour-level match on the surface. She had first-round exits in Rouen, Madrid, Rome, Strasbourg, and Roland Garros, where she lost 5-7, 6-7 (3) to Elena-Gabriela Ruse. However, she snapped the losing streak on grass, winning 6-2, 6-4 against Francesca Jones in the first round of the Queen's Club Championships.
Meanwhile, Zheng Qinwen is coming into the grass season on the back of some good form, as she has reached at least the Quarterfinals in five of her last six events.
