Video: Rafael Nadal hits a sensational winner against Lukas Rosol at Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal Wimbledon 2014 v Rosol

World Number 1 Rafael Nadal displayed his quintessential never-say-die spirit against his Wimbledon opponent Lukas Rosol on Thursday. Playing in his second-round clash at the All England Club, the Spaniard outwitted Rosol with his skills after dropping the first set.

There was one point in particular in the third set that set the court alight. Nadal sprinted up the court from near the baseline to return Rosol's drop shot. The Czech didn’t see that coming, and was caught completely off-guard. This display personified Nadal's intent on adding a third Wimbledon crown to his collection, as he went on to beat Rosol 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-4. Have a look at the video of Nadal's sensational winner:

Rosol, ranked No. 50 in the world, was never goitn to be an easy opponent for the French Open champion, considering their previous clashes. Two years earlier, Nadal had succumbed to Rosol's grit in the same stage at Wimbledon. And even on Thursday in their second round encounter, the 28-year-old took the match to four sets.

Nadal’s 2nd Round win v Rosol at Wimbledon was a tiring 2 hours 44 minute encounter

Seeded second at Wimbledon, Rafa hasn’t been able to completely sweep away his unseeded opponents yet. In his first round clash against unseeded Slovakian Martin Klizan, Nadal actually lost the first set 4-6. After surviving the early jitters, he sealed the remaining three sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. And even against Rosol, Nadal was tested till the fourth set. When opponents ranked 51 and 50 respectively can give the two-time Wimbledon champion a tough time, perhaps it’s a sign that Nadal needs to buckle up.

The Spaniard next faces World number 63 Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in the third round of Wimbledon. The unseeded Kazakh's entry into the third round is his best performance at the All England Club. The 26-year-old had earlier in 2012 fought his way into the fourth round of the Australian Open, before losing to 4th seed and eventual semi-finalist Andy Murray.

This will be Nadal's first entry into the third round of Wimbledon in three years. The last time the 14-time Grand Slam champion had progressed into the third round of Wimbledon was way back in 2011, when he eventually went on to lose to Novak Djokovic in the final.
