Rohan Bopanna - Florin Mergea through to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters

Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza move into the quarters of Cinncinatti Masters.

Bopanna and Mergea progressed through to the quarters

The fifth seed pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea took an hour and 29 minutes to battle past the French pair of Nicholas Mahut and Pierre-Huges Herbert in the Cincinnati third round, winning 1-6, 7-6(5), 13-11. During the grueling battle, the Indo-Romanian pair saved a match point in the second set and went on to claim the final set 13-11.

Bopanna and Mergea got off to a disastrous start as they were broken in their first two services games and also won just one of the seven games in the first set.

They face Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo next who beat Steve Johnson and Sam Querry comprehensively in straight sets 7-6, 7-6.

Mirza and Hingis have it tough

In the women’s doubles, top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis were tested by Julia Goerges and Klaudia Jans- Ignacik but were able to go past them with a 7-6, 6-4 victory. The 2015 Wimbledon Champions had problems with their serves and gave away many points in the form of double faults. But the Indo-Swiss pair broke their opponents twice in the second set to win the second set and match.  Sania and Hingis will play CoCo Vandeweghe and Christina Mchale next in the quarterfinals.
