Reilly Opelka vs Zizou Bergs preview

Lucky loser Reilly Opelka will face Zizou Bergs in the semifinals of the Libema Open 2025.
Opelka initially lost in the final round of qualifying but secured a place in the main draw as a lucky loser. He fought back from a set down to beat Jesper de Jong in the first round. He followed it up with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Nicolas Jarry to set up a quarterfinal showdown against top seed Daniil Medvedev.
Neither player was able to make any inroads on the other's serve throughout the match. Both sets went to a tiebreak in which Opelka came out on top to score a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) victory.
Bergs scored three-set wins over Alexander Blockx and Alexei Popyrin to make the last eight, where Mark Lajal awaited him. The Belgian was on the back foot for quite a while in the first set. However, he overcame a break deficit and saved a set point on his serve to force a tie-break.
Bergs had the last laugh in the tiebreak to take a one-set lead. While he squandered his break advantage in the second set, he regrouped in the tiebreak to win the match 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4).

Reilly Opelka vs Zizou Bergs prediction

Opelka has made the most out of his second shot as a lucky loser. He now finds himself on the verge of reaching his second final of the season. He previously made the final in Brisbane at the start of the year. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury and retired in the first set. Bergs advanced to his maiden ATP final in Auckland at the start of the season, losing to Gael Monfils.
Opelka's big serve is tailor-made for grass. However, things have fallen into place only recently for him. From his debut on the surface in 2017 until 2023, he went 3-8 on the surface. He has a 6-1 record on grass since last year. Bergs has a 4-3 record on the surface, with his current semifinal showing being his best result.
Opelka's serve has carried him through the tournament. He rained down 24 aces against Medvedev. Even when one gets to a break point on his serve, he usually pulls out an ace to bail himself out of trouble.
Bergs will need to counter his serve effectively and be mindful of his own serve. He hit a total of 23 double faults in the first two rounds, though he only threw in three of them in the previous round. Only an exceptional returning performance from him can stop Opelka from acing his way into the final.
Pick: Reilly Opelka to win in straight sets.
