Serena Williams storms into the semifinals of the 2015 French Open

Serena Williams beat Sarah Errani in straight sets

World No.1 Serena Williams progressed through to the semifinals of the 2015 Australian Open after defeating Sara Errani of Italy 6-1 6-3 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The 33-year-old American gunning for her third French Open title and her first one since 2010 made easy weather of her Italian opponent to march her way into the semis.

Set 1 saw Serena fire in 3 aces as compared to Errani’s 0 and also converted 8 out of her 13 first serve points while Errani managed to convert just 3 out of 12 she earned. However, despite, having recorded the same number of unforced errors in the first set, it was the number of winners where Serena outscored Errani by a massive margin- accounting for 14 winners to her opponent’s 4.

The second set followed a similar pattern with the 18-time Grand Slam champion firing in 7 aces as compared to her opponent’s 0 and also converted 13 out of her 16 1st serve points as compared to 19 out of 36 for Errani. Critically, though, like in the case with the first set, Serena once again beat her opponent in the number of winners tally- 25 to 5.
