Alexander Zverev vs Corentin Moutet preview

Following a first-round bye, top seed Alexander Zverev will face Corentin Moutet in the second round of the Boss Open 2025.
Zverev came up short in yet another Major final at the start of the season, going down to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final. A change of surface didn't improve his fortunes as he ended the South American clay swing with a 3-2 record. His return to hardcourts didn't go so smoothly either, with a fourth-round finish at the Miami Open being his best result.
The European clay swing started on a disastrous note for Zverev, leaving the Monte-Carlo Masters without a win. He got back on track with a title in Munich in front of his home crowd. He reached the fourth round of the Madrid Open and followed it up with a quarterfinal finish at the Italian Open, where he was the defending champion.
Zverev lost to Carlos Alcaraz in last year's French Open final in five sets. He arrived in Paris this year, hoping for a breakthrough, but lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
Moutet commenced his campaign in Stuttgart against Fabio Fognini. The Frenchman captured the first set courtesy of a break of serve in his favor. He overcame a 3-0 deficit in the second set but faltered in the eventual tie-break, costing him the set.
There wasn't much separating the two in the decider. However, Moutet raised his level towards the tail end of the set, bagging the last three games of the match for a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3 win.

Alexander Zverev vs Corentin Moutet prediction

Zverev's promising start to the season has been overshadowed by his recent string of underwhelming performances. He has failed to shine on the biggest stages since his run at the Melbourne Major. He has a 29-11 record for the season so far.
Moutet took the scenic route to victory to beat Fognini in the previous round. He improved his record for the year to 10-10 with the win. He also improved his career record on grass to 8-9.
Grass hasn't been Zverev's strongest suit in the past. Wimbledon remains the only Major where he hasn't advanced beyond the fourth round. He showed plenty of promise on grass at the start of his career, reaching back-to-back finals in Halle in 2016 and 2017. He hasn't reached another final since then, and has compiled a 39-20 record on grass.
Despite Zverev's lukewarm results on grass, he has outperformed Moutet on the surface and this year as well. He will be favored to come out on top in this encounter.
Pick: Alexander Zverev to win in straight sets.
