First-round matches will continue on Day 2 (June 10) of the Boss Open 2025 in Stuttgart. With the clay swing behind them, players have little time to get acclimatized to grass. With Wimbledon being less than three weeks away, they need as many wins as possible before the season's third Major.
The first day of the tournament saw no upsets, with both seeded players moving through. Sixth seed Brandon Nakashima needed three sets to get past Jacob Fearnley, while eighth seed Jiri Lehecka got the job done in straight sets against Benjamin Bonzi.
More players will aim to begin their run in Stuttgart with a win. On that note, here's a look the predictions for some of the singles and doubles matches set for Day 2 of the Boss Open 2025:
#1. Learner Tien vs Yoshihito Nishioka
Tien shot to limelight with his heroics at the Australian Open at the start of the season. He came through the qualifiers and beat Daniil Medvedev en route to the fourth round. He bagged another big scalp in Acapulco a few weeks later by defeating World No. 2 Alexander Zverev.
However, Tien didn't win a match after that until the Italian Open. He snapped his six-match losing streak with a win over compatriot Reilly Opelka. He has lost his next three matches since then, including a first-round exit from the French Open. His record for the year stands at 7-12.
Nishioka has a 7-7 record this year, with a quarterfinal showing at the Dallas Open being his best result. He has lost his last four matches on the ATP Tour, including a first-round exit from the French Open. He got a headstart on his grass swing by competing in a Challenger tournament last week but crashed out in the first round.
This will be Tien's first career tournament on grass. Even though Nishioka is a veteran, he hasn't performed that well on grass. With both players being in the middle of a slump, their first career meeting could go either way. While the Japanese hasn't tasted a lot of success on the surface, his past experience could come in handy to help him get over the finish line.
Predicted winner: Yoshihito Nishioka
#2. Lorenzo Sonego vs Quentin Halys

Sonego advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open at the start of the season, his first at a Major. The rest of the season hasn't been as eventful for him. He wrapped up the clay swing with a 1-5 record and lost in the first round of the French Open.
A semifinal finish in Dubai back in February remained Halys' best result this year until he reached the third round of the French Open. Those two tournaments mark the only time he has won back-to-back matches this year.
Sonego has a 21-17 record on grass and won his maiden ATP title on the surface in 2018. He also reached another final on the surface in 2021. Halys, on the other hand, has a 6-5 record on the surface. The Italian's seems better equipped to handle the challenges posed by grass and as such will be favored to win the match.
Predicted winner: Lorenzo Sonego
#3. Taylor Fritz/Jiri Lehecka vs Albano Olivetti/Hendrik Jebens
Fritz concluded his underwhelming clay swing with a first-round loss at the French Open. He received a first-round bye at the Boss Open in singles. While he waits for his singles campaign to get underway, he will contest his doubles match on Tuesday.
Fritz's partner, Lehecka, beat Benjamin Bonzi 6-4, 6-4 in the first round here. Olivetti and Jebens have teamed up for the second time this year. They previously partnered up at the Miami Open and lost in the first round.
Fritz has won three titles on grass and has made the last eight at Wimbledon twice. Lehecka doesn't have as much match play as the American on grass, though he did reach the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2023. The duo should be able to take down the pairing of Olivetti and Jebens, who haven't had a lot of success individually and as a pair in recent weeks.
Predicted winners: Taylor Fritz and Jiri Lehecka
#4. Fabio Fognini vs Corentin Moutet

Fognini is in the twilight of his career. He has lost all four main draw matches that he contested this season. Moutet has a 9-10 record this year, with his best result being a fourth-round finish at the Italian Open. He recently lost to Novak Djokovic in the second round of the French Open.
Grass was never Fognini's strongest suit even during his prime. He never advanced beyond the third round at the grass court Major and didn't even reach a final on the surface. Fortunately for him, Moutet hasn't done that well on the surface either, with a 7-9 career record on grass. Nevertheless, since the Italian hasn't won a match this year, he will be the underdog in this match-up.
Predicted winner: Corentin Moutet
