Tennis: Mirza - Huber crash out in Eastbourne

Sania Mirza and Liezel Huber crashed out of the Aegon International in Eastbourne. The 2nd seeds lost to Monica Niculescu and Klara Zakopalova in a hard fought encounter 6-3 3-6 11-9.

The Indo – American combination started the match well, racing to a 3-1 lead but the unseeded duo fought back to take the remaining games and the set. None of the two teams were able to hold serve well in the first set as a total of 6 breaks occurred.

Mirza – Huber made a comeback in the second set to win it 6-3 and take the game into the super tiebreak. The second set also had 4 breaks of serve with the 2nd seeds breaking thrice as compared to once by their opponents.

In the super tie break, Mirza-Huber dominated for most parts, even having 2 match points, serving at 9-7. However, the Indo-American pair could not hold their nerve as Niculescu-Zakopalova won the next 4 points to take the match and enter the semis.

Mirza – Huber will next play at Wimbledon where they are seeded 6th.
