Reigning champion Stan Wawrinka has not had it as easy as he would have expected

Reigning French Open champion Stan Wawrinka was considered as having the easiest draw at the 2015 French Open. He was taken to five sets straightaway in his first round match against Czech Davis Cupper Lukas Rosol.

Finishing his next two matches in straight sets, the Swiss found somewhat of a challenge from Viktor Troicki, going to subsequent tiebreaks in the first two sets, Troicki saving four break points in the first set alone and then leading Wawrinka 4-1 in the second as the Swiss scrambled to make up.

Wawrinka will not be particularly worried today, given he leads Spaniard Ramos-Vinolas 6-0 in the pair’s head-to-head. The Spaniard has given stronger performances against Wawrinka on hardcourts rather than clay, with the Swiss making an easy time of it on that surface.

Although Ramos-Vinolas saw trouble from American Jack Sock, he proceeded to demolish 8th seed Milos Raonic in straight sets with the Canadian unable to regain momentum after a first set loss; buoyed by that, he could possibly give Wawrinka some trouble, but it looks as though Wawrinka will be through to the semi-finals of the French Open a second consecutive year.
