Former world number one Venus Williams has said that she would have no issues playing five set matches at Grand slams after Andy Murray called for equal match lengths for both men and women in grand slams.

“If we have to play best-of-three, we play best-of-three. If it’s best-of-five that’s fine too. Either way it’s not a problem,” said Venus.

Germany’s Angelique Kerber supported Venus and said that the women players are fit to last five sets.

“I think we are fit and strong enough to play five sets,” she said.

Meanwhile, former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is less thrilled with the prospect of playing five sets.

“I don’t know if I’m prepared for best-of-five matches. The top 50 are getting so much better and that’s why matches are so close now. I’d need to work more on stamina and do more running to be able to play best-of-five” she said.

WTA responded to the suggestion by saying that they are open and willing to implement this system but pointed out that the tournaments should first request about longer matches to make the first move.
