Jack Draper vs Tomas Machac preview
Seventh seed Jack Draper is set to face Tomas Machac in a highly anticipated quarterfinal at the 2024 Erste Bank Open on Friday, October 25.
Draper hasn't featured much on tour since his impressive semifinal run at the US Open. He reached the quarterfinals at the Japan Open where he competed last but was forced to withdraw trailing 7-5, 2-1 to Ugo Humbert due to an abdominal issue.
In Vienna this week, Draper opened with a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 7-5 win against Japanese veteran Kei Nishikori. He followed it up with a dominant 7-5, 6-1 victory over Luciano Darderi in the subsequent round in just 76 minutes.
Machac, like Draper, also had to retire mid-match from his previous event at the Almaty Open last week due to illness. However, he had an impressive week prior with a semifinal run in Shanghai.
Machac kicked off his Erster Bank Open campaign this week with a routine 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Fabian Marozsan. In the second round, he staged a remarkable comeback, defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 despite being down and out in several moments.

Jack Draper vs Tomas Machac prediction
Jack Draper has been in impeccable form this week in Vienna, not dropping a set so far. In his previous match, he was dominant on serve, winning 91% of his first-serve points, firing 15 aces, and remaining unbroken throughout. He was equally impressive on the attack, racking up 34 winners to just 8 unforced errors and winning 31 return points out of 68 total points.
Tomas Machac, on the other hand, was pushed to the limit in his last match but showed remarkable mental resilience to secure the win despite plenty of tough moments. Although his serving performance was below par, he made up for it on the return, converting 4 out of 9 break points and excelling in crucial points, particularly in games that went to deuce.
Draper heads into this contest with a better match record for the year and on the hardcourts. Machac, however, has fared better recently, which will give him confidence too. In what promises to be an exciting contest, Draper is likely to come out on top given that the indoor surface suits his blistering style of play more. He's also performed better at the business end of events as compared to Machac.
Pick: Draper to win in three sets.
