Vishnu, Ranjeet set up title clash in Asian Tennis Tour

Kolkata, Nov 8 (IANS) Top seed Vishnu Vardhan set up a title date with former Davis Cupper V.M. Ranjeet at the Central Excise Asian Tennis Tour here on Tuesday.

In their semi-final clash, Nitin Kumar Sinha broke Vishnu to take a 2-0 lead but the latter broke back immediately in the next game. Both players held the serve thereafter and were level at 3-3.

Nitin had few chances but missed passing shorts at some important moments and Vishnu broke again to lead 4-3 and eventually both players held serve for Vishnu to take the set at 6-4.

In the second set, Vishnu, with one break, went on to win the set at 6-4.

In the other semi-final, second seed Ranjeet with his aggressive ground strokes proved too strong for giant killer Rohit Rampuria from the beginning, winning 6-3, 61.

Rohit was the wild card entry in the tournament and fought hard in the first set but eventually lost 3-6.

In the second set, Rohit started making few errors trying to get more aggressive and Ranjeet eventually won the second set 6-1.

Earlier, Vishnu ousted Saurav Sukul 6-1, 6-1 in the quarter-final while Ranjeet thrashed Ishaque Eqbal 6-1, 6-0.

The men's singles quarter-final results:
