Serena Williams spent the month of October recovering from a health scare. The American superstar underwent surgery to remove a large cyst on her neck. Williams kept her fans informed through the entire process with updates on her social media account.

Since her retirement two years ago, Williams has been enjoying her time with her family. The former World No. 1 is a mother to two daughters and often shares glimpses from her life on social media.

In early October, Williams posted a message on her social media account sharing that she underwent surgery on her branchial cyst the "size of a small grapefruit." The 43-year-old added that her surgery was successful and "everything was ok." The American spent most of the month recovering and resting after the surgery.

Later, Williams posted that since her retirement her life has changed from chasing tennis balls to "chasing" one daughter while helping the other with tennis and cooking. The American took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared an adorable video of her with her two daughters playing and enjoying their company with each other.

Serena Williams wrote,

"My life is very different now. Instead of chasing balls, I’m chasing #Adira and helping #Olympia with tennis lessons and cooking. (And, all this is in-between Venture Capital calls)"

The big tennis news in October was Rafael Nadal's retirement from professional tennis. The Spanish superstar announced he will retire from tennis after playing at the Davis Cup. As soon as the announcement was made, messages flooded in from people across the tennis world. However, there was no immediate message from Serena Williams.

Williams later posted a message on her X account saying she missed out on a lot of news due to her surgery and recovery, including Nadal's retirement.

"So many things I missed like @glamourmag, Woman of the Year awards, @RafaelNadal retirement 😢 and I am still recovering, but getting better. Health always comes first."

Williams kept updating her fans about her health throughout October and towards the end of the month said that she had been feeling better.
