The Brasil Open in Sao Paulo has attracted plenty of top tennis talent over the years, but the 2019 edition of the tournament is set to be one of the weakest ever, with none of the world's top 30 set to take part.
However, in the absence of a star cast, a host of youngsters in Felix Auger-Aliassime, Elias Ymer and Casper Ruud will be looking to make a mark.
Defending champion Fabio Fognini has opted to give the tournament a miss, with his focus on Indian Wells instead. While Fognini will play no part in the event, three-time champion Pablo Cuevas will return to the scene of his past triumphs as he gets his campaign underway against the prodigiously talented 18-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The Canadian got the better of the experienced Cuevas in Rio just last week en route to the finals and will be looking for a repeat of the same.
Laslo Djere, on the back of a remarkable victory in Rio, has risen to a career-high ranking of 37, and enters the tournament as one of the favourites, at least on paper.
Joao Sousa, who has had a disappointing season thus far, is the top seed and will be chasing his first title of 2019.
